Reference against turquoise expected to include the final text of the conclusions of Summit in Brussels.
In particular, the draft conclusions of the European Council states as follows: “The European Council recalls that the Turkish-Libyan-Libyer Memorandum for the delineation of maritime jurisdiction in the Mediterranean violates the sovereign rights of third parties, does not comply with its law.”
This report is expected to be validated in the final conclusions text.
Earlier today at the Summit the Prime Minister emphasized that there should be explicit reports And for the illegal Turkolibyan memorandum: “Greece will ask for, and I believe it will succeed, explicit references to the 2019 illegal Turkolibyan memorandum.
“We think that the repetition of this European message in the current context is necessary to make it clear in both Turkey and Libya that this memorandum has no practical and legal value,” the prime minister said.
All Prime Minister’s statement:
“The European Council, which begins shortly, takes place shortly after the NATO summit, which has decided a drastic increase in defense spending on a decade for all members of the alliance. It is natural, therefore, that to a large extent foreign policy issues will monopolize our interest.
I will have the opportunity to refer to the permanent Greek positions in terms of our wider region, the Middle East, the need to maintain a truce achieved between Iran and Israel. Restore all parts to the negotiating table so that Iran’s nuclear threat is treated not in a military but diplomatic way.
I will again reiterate the firm position of the Greek government that now is the time to bring back to public debate the issue of truce, the immediate truce in Gaza, with the simultaneous liberation of all hostages to stop this unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
We will also refer to issues related to Syria. We will condemn, I hope, as a European Council, the disgusting terrorist attack that took place a few days ago with the aim of Greek Orthodox Christians. And to send a clear message to the transitional government of Syria that we demand the protection of all religious minorities.
And of course, we will also be of concern to us the issues that are related to the Libyain which Libya intersects foreign and immigration policy priorities throughout the European Union.
I will have the opportunity to inform my colleagues about the significant increase in migratory flows from East Libya and to seek the support of the European Commission so that this issue can be addressed immediately.
I would like to express my satisfaction with the fact that the President of the European Commission responded immediately. The European Commissioner, together with ministers from Italy, Greece and Malta, will be in the east and western Libya in early July, so as to convey the message to the Libyan authorities that this practice cannot be tolerated.
As you know, Greece has already mobilized its armed forces, so that there is a surveillance mission of the Libyan authorities, outside the Libyan territorial waters, thereby sending a clear message that we want, we demand to work with the Libyan authorities, so that these They leave their territorial waters.
Also, Greece will ask – and I believe it will succeed – to be included in the conclusions explicit references to the illegal Turkolibyan Memorandum of 2019. We consider that the repetition of this European message in the current context is absolutely necessary, so that it is clear in both Turkey and in Turkey and in Turkey and in Libya..
At the same time, we will also discuss issues related to European competitiveness. We will once again emphasize energy issues: the way Europe can and should have more accessible energy, how the European energy market for all consumers will work better, how to increase the penetration of renewable energy sources so that we become more self -sufficient and not dependent on precise imports.
And, of course, on the issues of competitiveness, we will also emphasize our will to support any European Commission’s efforts to the logic of simplifying and limiting European bureaucracy, which creates a very major competitiveness problem in all European businesses.
Journalist: What are your expectations from today’s meeting on immigration policy?
Kyriakos Mitsotakis: We will discuss the issue of immigration at the European Council once again. As you know, now attention, on behalf of the European Commission, focuses on ensuring that we implement a new policy on returns. This seems to me to be missing from the current migration pact.
And of course, I will also have the opportunity to inform my colleagues about the problems we are now facing with Libya and send a very clear message to encourage Libyan authorities, both in the eastern and western Libya, that they must cooperate with European countries and with the European Commission. Thank you”.
