Oikonomou to SKAI: In 10-15 days the precision allowance will be paid – What he said about the VAT on food

by

The precision allowance will be given at 10-15, according to what the government spokesman, Giannis Oikonomou, said on SKAI’s “Today” show, adding that the measure is entitled to vulnerable households, low-income retirees, people with disabilities and beneficiaries of the social solidarity allowance.

This is an additional relief measure to mitigate the effects of accuracy, said Mr. Economou, adding that the amount will be given per beneficiary, will be given in money, will be tax-free and will not be offset.

He noted that it will be given to about 650,000 households and the amount of the expenditure is close to 350 million euros. He added that the increase of the allowance given for children will come soon.

Responding to criticism from the government that the measure is not enough, the government spokesman said that the size of the increases is such that whatever move we made, would not zero the increases. We are experiencing unprecedented increases, he said characteristically.

“People are being tested, they want more, they are indignant, they are afraid, they are in despair. This is one. The other is that the government has done and will continue to do what it can to stand by the people. Every time a package comes in, people ask for the next one, that’s logical for the world, but the possibilities are not limitless. “Support has not started now, it has been in progress since September and is expanding and strengthening depending on the evolution of the crisis,” said Mr. Economou.

Asked if the government intends to reduce VAT on foodsomething that was left open yesterday by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Mr. Oikonomou stressed that there are always weapons on the table, however in the government there are concerns about the implementation of this measure.

According to Mr. Economou, the first concern is whether the reduction will reach consumers or will be absorbed by the intermediate links of the market.

He also said that the reduction of VAT would be a horizontal measure, while the philosophy is to have as targeted measures as possible.

In addition, he said that the dependence of tax revenues such as VAT is too high. This would reduce government revenues, resulting in a lack of funding for other needs, such as further support for the primary sector.

Regarding electricity, he said that the horizontal support provided in Greece is a percentage higher than that provided in Europe.
