Decisions on the next steps in the management of migration flows that have pushing Crete in recent days, has been taking place today at noon at the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, under Minister Thanos Plevris.

At the meeting, the issue of creating a detention center in Crete is expected to be raised, among other things, to address increased flows.

The meeting will be attended by, among other things, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and MP of Rethymnon, Yiannis Kefalogiannis, the Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum and Chania MP, Sevi Voloudakis, the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arna

Speaking on a television show on Thursday, Minister Thanos Plevris stressed that the creation of a new closed detention structure in Crete is an urgent need, as the island is in a zone of increased migration pressure due to its geographical location.

“Suitable spaces have already been granted by the Ministry of National Defense and the planning to immediately build the structure is ongoing. This is an intervention of strategic importance, “the minister said.
