“We are solving a decades-long backlog in Thessaly with the Enipeas Dam”, stressed in a statement of the ministry the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport in charge of Infrastructure, Mr. George Karagiannis.
The Undersecretary referred to the holistic treatment of the issue of water supply and irrigation in the wider area of Farsala with the Enipeas dam, clarifying that the government is not just announcing but also carrying out.
Answering a relevant question of SYRIZA in the Parliament, in the context of the Parliamentary control, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure referred in detail to the project which, as he said, unfortunately, its construction has been pending for decades.
Mr. Karagiannis stated characteristically: “When the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the construction of the Enipeas river dam, many spoke of an unequivocal announcement, since it is known that its construction has been pending for decades. But the difference between the current government and the past lies in the fact that it does not just announce, but also carry out. “
THE Undersecretary of Infrastructure assured that the project is a priority and this is proven by the decision of Minister Costas Karamanlis to characterize it as a National Level project.
In fact, as Mr. Karagiannis made known, “a long-term project is to be implemented that went beyond the initial planning of the construction of a single dam and contains all the construction works of water supply and irrigation networks in the wider area.”
“We are one step ahead of the auction of the project,” said the Undersecretary of Infrastructure, adding that “since we do not have ideological entanglements and obsessions about bad individuals, the implementation of the project through PPP was chosen as more appropriate and advantageous.”
Technical characteristics and budget
It is noted that the project, whose budget reaches 315 million euros, includes the construction of the Dam with a Reservoir with a useful capacity of 115 million cubic meters and through it will be able to irrigate lowland areas belonging to the Local Land Improvement Organizations of Thessaly, Farsala. Titanium N. Karditsa, total area 107,500 acres of agricultural land.
The object of the project also includes water supply projects of the city of Farsala and 31 settlements in the area of Farsala, which are included in the Municipal Units of Farsala, Polydamanta, Enipea and Narthaki.
“Infrastructure projects cannot be considered for temporary political benefits”
The Undersecretary of Infrastructure pointed out that “infrastructure projects are long-term projects, they add value to the areas that are being implemented and can not be treated lightly for temporary political benefits, as is the case with problematic projects that we have inherited and are trying to complete.”
In closing, Mr. Karagiannis clarified that “the implementation of projects for us at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, is a product of systematic and methodical work, aimed at the need to modernize the public infrastructure of the country. We do this consistently every day and we will continue to do this. “
