He adds that since the beginning of July, the new law of the Ministry of Health has been passed on the protection of minors from tobacco and alcohol products- which is a contemporary law and a sophisticated network of protection- and includes the police in the control bodies for the disposal and sale of tobacco products, 14.190 checks, 99 violations have been confirmed and 94 offenders have been arrested.

“The protection of minors from violence, but also from the various forms of addictions, such as tobacco products, alcohol and the internet, is a key priority of the government and the Ministry of Citizen Protection.

One of the main forecasts of this law is the inclusion of the police to the control bodies for the disposal and sale of tobacco and alcohol products to minors.

It may seem self -evident, but it was not, as by decisions of previous governments, police were excluded from this audit jurisdiction, resulting in the whole control system collapsing and having tragic incidents with the exhibition of juvenile alcohol and even distorted.

This has changed now.

From the beginning of July until August 31, in implementing the new law, the Police Services carried out 14,112 checks nationwide and in collaboration with other relevant bodies, 78 checks.

Of these, 99 violations emerged and the relevant files were formed, and 94 arrests were made and 70 fines were confirmed.

The 61 cases concerned the sale and disposal of alcohol to minors, and a case file was formed for neglect of a minor.
