Greece’s steady pursuit of the Greek-Cyprus electric interconnection project was reiterated by the Greek Foreign Minister in an interview on the online channel of the financial postman. He said, however, that economic viability is a prerequisite for the project and the pursuit of the Greek government is to clarify. Mr Gerapetritis said that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office is not about current management, but previous management before the implementing body, ADMIE, however, stressing that the studies are prerequisite and are of significant value.

“This project, this is not only measurable in economic sizes, but is of major importance to Cyprus as it removes its energy isolation and is funded by the European Union. Greece did not take part in the project aiming at economic benefits, “the minister said, saying that it was important to have a whole support from Cyprus and to be a mutually desirable project.

Regarding the reactions that have arisen, Mr Gerapetritis stressed that the project is European, other EU countries (France, Italy) is also protected by international law and Greece’s disposal is to have no intervention.

The Foreign Minister separated the geopolitical perspective of the issue, from the financial viability and obligations of the parties, making it clear that Turkey’s reaction will not prevent us and proceed if there is a fixed agreement.

“The project is never going to stop because of Turkey and there is no question. We have proven that there are no second thoughts when it comes to national and sovereign rights, “he said.

On the occasion of the incident with Turkish fishermen, the minister was asked if it was a sample of a return to tension, which rejected that, it turned out, the incident took place in international waters. “I am not saying that there are no issues of illegal fishing, but we have to put things in their objective dimension. We are dealing with such incidents with a very strong voice and we will do what we need, “he added.

The Foreign Minister also argued, in relation to the Palestinian, the firm position of the Greek government over the last two years that there should be a margin for peace, a cessation of hostilities, so that diplomacy and uninterrupted humanitarian aid can be made.

“Greece, good or bad, is a country that has an extremely good relationship with Israel, but on the other hand it is perhaps the only country that talks to the whole Arab world and the Palestinian authority itself and is in favor of recognizing the Palestinian state.” Asked about the possibility of sanctions on Israel, he said he was being discussed in the European Union, but we are not at this level at this time, and said that Greece would participate in the Conference on the two states, at the UN General Assembly.

Regarding the biggest challenges he sees for the next period, the minister said that he is very concerned about the general asymmetry in the international arena, at a time of the most clashes in the world and two wars in our neighborhood. “I am puzzled by the retreat of multimedia, that is, the retreat of international organizations in the discourse of international organizations, such as the UN and the EU, as warrants of international legality. Instead of this international multiculture, the classic security architecture, we see that the states themselves are trying to find a solution to the big problems, “said Mr Gerapetritis.
