An amendment that introduces “a comprehensive framework for measures to restore transparency, fight against nonsense and protecting patient rights in the field of private health” filed the PASOK – Movement for Change, at the initiative of the KTE manager. Health, Yiannis Tsimaris, and the MPs of the Party involved in the Standing Committee on Social Affairs of the House.
The amendment, which was tabled in the bill entitled “Social consideration, social lease, trteenic status and other provisions”, according to a PASO-KINAL announcement, “comes in the continuation of the party’s commitment to transparency and in the field of health insurance premiums, with the aim of tackling it.”
Specifically, ‘the amendment responds to the need:
– Combating the nonsense that dominates private health
– Intercept the burden of patients with disproportionate and unjustified charges
– Protection of EOPYY insured persons and private insurance organizations
– Strengthening transparency, control and healthy competition.
Main settings of the amendment:
– Mandatory implementation of the System of Homogeneous Diagnostic Groups (DRGS) for clear costing and informing the patient prior to hospitalization.
– Personalized update: timely, written and clear information to patients about the cost of hospitalization, medical operations and medical products, prior to the initiation of treatment.
– Cost deviations (eg prolongation, complications) without additional burden, unless the diagnostic group changes.
– Prohibition of unexpected charges and illegal charges, with a clear prediction that any additional costs must be justified and proven.
– Strict penalties for businesses that violate their obligations, as well as administrative tools for controlling pricing practices.
– Protection of EOPYY insured persons, with an explicit obligation to inform about beds and charges, as well as EOPYY’s co -responsibility for violations of affiliated clinics.
– Prohibition of enforcing increased charges due to private insurance coverage of the patient and a ban on diversification of medical charges due to the category of hospitalization.
– Establishment of maximum pricing limits in cases of excessive costs or exploitation.
– Strengthening competition, with a prediction to expand the operations that may be carried out in daily hospitalization units and rebates for investment in quality infrastructure of small – middle clinics. “
According to PASOK MPs who sign the amendment, “we ensure that citizens are aware of the cost of their hospitalization, protected from unexpected charges and access to quality services in fair terms. Health is not a field of speculation. It is a right, ”said PASOK MPs.
