The letter of Greece was published to the UN, which responds to the Libyan letter unilaterally set the outer boundaries of the Libyan EEZ, in a way that overlaps a large part of the Greek EEZ, based on the Turkish -tired Memorandum, according to ertnews.gr.
The letter dated September 3 is replied to the Libyan letter of May 27 and gives detailed placements on all issues raised by Libya:
First of all, the Turkolibyy Memorandum is illegal, as it ignores the existence and rights of the Greek islands, as is typically written in the letter.
A few days after the announcement of US Chevron’s interest in plots south of Crete, Athens again points out that the design of these plots – as well as the overall Greek marine spatial planning – is in line with sea law.
Greece rejects the claim that the midline must be engraved on the basis of the continental coasts of the two countries. It is recalled that this is one place that Turkey essentially attempts to impose on the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean and thereby to substantially ignore the sovereign rights of the Greek islands.
Finally, Athens highlights the legality of the Greek Cypriot Agreement of Exclusive Economic Zone, which was signed in August 2020.
