A series of major meetings with US government officials and members of the Congress were held by Minister of Maritime and Island Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, on the first day of his visit to Washington.

The minister met with the Minister of the Interior and Head of the National Energy Energy Dominance Council (NEDC), Doug Burgum, following the recent visit to Greece.

According to the ministry, the meeting came as a direct continuation of what was discussed just a week ago, was fully focused on producing immediate results and was another milestone in the deepening of Greece – USA strategic cooperation in the shipbuilding and shipping sector, where the Greek -owned shipping can offer, extremely important circumstance for the US Shipbuilding Industry.

At the heart of the debate was the key issue of LNG production by America, which, as V. Kikilias emphasized, carries the Greek -owned fleet – the strongest fleet in the world – with stability; security and reliability Around the world, in allies and friends.

The meeting (in the presence of Greek Ambassador Katerina Nasika) was also attended by the executive director of the US National Council of Energy Sovereignty (NEDC), Jarrod Agen and NEDC’s Senior Policy Advisor, Brittany Kelm, who subsequently welcomed Mr.

The Minister also held a meeting with Joshua (Josh) Volz, Deputy US Minister of Energy (Deputy Assistant Secretary, US Department of Energy), in action ministry of the US.

Mr Kikilias emphasized the decisive role that Greece’s position plays, which is at the crossroads of important Geostrategic Energy Projectssuch as vertical. At the heart of the debate were the strategic investment partnerships linking shipping, energy and shipyards and the mutual, beneficial results that the two countries can achieve in these sectors.

Mr Kikilias had a very interesting discussion with Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam Mulopoulos and the Deputy Chief of the USA, Mrs Zoe Sofos, of the US Trade Representative Office (USA). There was an exchange of views on the measures announced by the USTR on the expected imposition of port service fees on specific categories of ships, and the decisive role of Greek shipping worldwide was highlighted.

The minister also had a very warm meeting with Senator Jerry Moran, an extremely experienced politician who has been elected to the state of Kansas since 2010. He thanked him for his friendship to Greece, as well as for the understanding and solidarity he has shown in our challenges. At the heart of the debate was the deepening of bilateral Greece -US cooperation in the maritime sector, given Mr Moran’s status as a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Transport.

Finally, V. Kikilias attended a reception listed in honor of the Ecumenical Patriarch, Bartholomew, with a honored invited by Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House of Representatives (Speaker of the House) and host John S. Koudounis CEO of Calamos Investments.
