The Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritiswill go on Sunday, September 21st to New Yorkin order to participate, from 22 to September 26, in the work of the high -level week of the 80th session of his General Assembly UNaccording to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr Gerapetritis’ program includes numerous high -level meetings and contacts with foreign ministers from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Central and Latin America.
The focus of the Foreign Minister’s meetings and contacts will be the war in Ukraine, the crisis in the Middle East, developments in sub -Saharan Africa, as well as modern world challenges, according to the announcement.
Mr Gerapetritis will participate in three-way meetings of the Greek-Cyprus-Cyprus, Greece, Greece-Cyprus-Iordination and Greece-Cyprus-Syria Ministers. In addition, it will participate in the four-member Greek-Romania-Bulgaria-Croatian cooperation scheme. It will also take place at the Transcutanent Dinner organized by US Secretary of State Mark Rubio.
As part of the proceedings of the 80th General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will participate in the high -level meeting to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the UN establishment, as well as the International Conference on the solution of the two states co -organized by France and Saudi Arabia. Mr Gerapetritis will be chaired by the Ministerial Council of the Forum of Ancient Cultures, in which Greece exercises the presidency in 2025.
It is noted that Greece is a member of the United Nations Security Council for the two-year period 2025-2026 and priorities of its term are the peaceful resolution of disputes, respect for international law, the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda, climate change and security, children and security.
In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will intervene at the Extraordinary meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the Middle East situation, including the Palestinian issue, as well as the Security Council meeting between the United Nations and the Arab League, chaired by the Republic of Korea.
