The intention of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance to withdraw from the vote on the labor bill was announced by the parliamentary representative of the party, Christos Giannoulis, during his intervention in the Plenary.
As Mr. Giannoulis emphasized, “we are not going to legalize this particular extreme, the labor deregulation which attacks, not only interests, but fundamental rights acquired with the blood of other generations”.
At the same time, he accused the government that “you are hard class towards what expresses the many and you are complexly obsessed with what benefits the few. We want our children to be able to live and you are depriving the next generations of oxygen.”
Mr. Giannoulis stated in detail:
“The first question I will ask the Minister, Ms. Kerameos, is who really ordered this bill? Is there a person, is there an organized group that ordered it and a government willing to carry it out, as it has carried out a number of other legislative initiatives that have affected society, the economy, culture, our lives and the future of generations to come?
The second question is why you took so long to confess what you admitted yesterday. That what inspires you in politics is the condition where the market will determine everything, in public education, in public health.
What thread are you following? Three elements, characteristics: you are the government of corruption, cover-up, incompetence and with this bill, even misanthropy. Yes, genuine humanistic issues really come into play, as to whether you are ultimately with what the majority of Greek citizens, parents and younger people stand for.
Do you think people will become happier with these reforms? Do you know what I dream about my child? I dream of finishing his studies. I dream of him getting a decent master’s degree, without paying at the Colleges that you christened non-profit universities.
You are rigidly classist towards what represents the many and are complexly obsessed with what benefits the few. We want our children to be able to live and you are depriving the next generations of oxygen.
We are not going to legalize this particular extreme, labor deregulation which attacks, not only interests, but fundamental rights acquired with the blood of other generations.
And we do this consciously, because there must be an end to your legislative arbitrariness which protected health scandals, waste of public money, illegal enrichment, a series of things that deprive us of air and light.
We will not legalize by our participation in the vote either the 13 hours, nor the arrangement of working time, nor all that which you were ordered to bring with the bill under the title of “Fair work for all.”
Justice is coming, but of a different type: political, electoral and human. And there you will not be able to make use of the advantage of the governing majority. Because for citizens who live in normal conditions and not in marble glasses, their opinion is very different from your own reality that you live in.”
