The Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Giorgos Kotsiras, mentioned the use of digital tools, including artificial intelligence, to better serve citizens and businesses and limit tax evasion, speaking on Tuesday, October 21, with journalist Emilia Kantzou, at a CNN Insights event on “The GEN AI Challenge for the Financial Sector”.

Mr. Kotsiras underlined that a large part of the success of the fight against tax evasion is due to the adoption of digital means, such as the connection of POS with the cash registers and the myData.

“The income we had from cracking down on tax evasion last year was significant and we hope that this year it will be even more”said the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance and emphasized that these revenues are returned to the citizens with measures that improve their daily lives, such as the rent subsidy and the 250 euro subsidy for pensioners, which will come into effect this November.

In relation to electronic payments, Mr. Kotsiras pointed out that they have now extended to all ages and spoke of a change in mentality, which is also “the most important gain”.

Next, the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance referred to the use of digital control models to deal with smuggling, noting that relevant regulations were included in the new National Customs Code.

At a time when delinquency is evolving, especially at an organized level financial crimeone should constantly find ways to deal with it, noted Mr. Kotsiras and added that the State supports AADE logistically and financially for the use of artificial intelligence tools, in the battle against tax evasion and smuggling, for the benefit of citizens.
