Accepted his suggestion Socrates Famellou to “companion” with Alexis Tsiprashis Political Secretariat did SYRIZAdespite his reaction Pavlos Polakis.
The decision of the Political Secretariat is based on the need for a change of page in the country, which, according to the announcement, can be achieved through the convergence of progressive forces and the creation of a progressive pole.
The decision of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance in detail:
The country and society are at a critical crossroads in the seventh year of ND rule. The demand for political change is becoming a majority among Greek men and women every day, and this necessity for change concerns all major issues.
Once again, Kyriakos Mitsotakis chose the descent of toxicity, tension and division with the unacceptable and unconstitutional amendment that the ND voted for the Monument to the Unknown Soldier. Unable to accept his defeat by the honest and fair struggle of Panos Routsi, Kyriakos Mitsotakis resorts to authoritarianism and the suppression of popular mobilizations. The great majority of Greek society, who stood by Panos Routsi and all the relatives of the victims of the crime of Tempe, demanding truth and justice, will in practice cancel this miserable amendment.
The farming world continues to face the government’s taunting of subsidy payments, with delays, reduced payments and loss of resources, due to the huge OPEKEPE blue scandal. The government’s inaction to deal with the zoonotic smallpox pandemic has proved disastrous for livestock farmers. SYRIZA – PS has already submitted a comprehensive proposal for measures to deal with the zoonotic disease and to restore livestock and the financial rehabilitation of those affected. The government just yesterday presented a part of our proposal for the establishment of a National Scientific Committee, which will monitor the evolution of the zoonosis. We hope that they will adopt all of our proposals.
At the same time, the Mitsotakis government continues its attack on labor by passing yet another anti-labor law that brings 13-hour work to an employer, instead of reduced working hours, collective agreements, wage increases, job security. At the same time, he allegedly tries to tame accuracy with mockery measures such as reducing prices in some codes, instead of zeroing the VAT on food and medicine, reducing the VAT on fuel, breaking the profiteering cartels (energy, refineries, banks) and effectively dealing with housing costs, while the situation in the National Health System remains tragic mainly due to the huge staff shortages.
In foreign policy, it is necessary for the country to abandon the strategy of the predictable and given US ally followed by the Mitsotakis government and return to the active and multidimensional foreign policy it had with the SYRIZA government. This necessity becomes imperative due to the important developments we have in our wider region after the fragile truce in Gaza, with no prospect of a fair resolution of the Palestinian issue within the framework of the UN with a two-state solution on the borders of 1967 and the capital of the Palestinian state in East Jerusalem, but also after the hopeful election result in the Turkish Cypriot community with the victory of Tufan Erhiurman who creates positive expectations for a Bizonal Bicommunal Federation solution in Cyprus.
The country must turn the page. A progressive Greece, with justice, democracy and sustainable development can and must be the alternative way out. Therefore, developments in the progressive space will determine whether political change is possible in the next election.
SYRIZA – PS has consistently for a long time emphasized the need for the cooperation of progressive forces. However, to date there has not been the political will to take substantial steps towards convergence by the other forces in the progressive space. The issue, however, remains the governing perspective of the progressive space and as long as the current situation is maintained, the only winner is the ND, while the danger of the extreme right always lurks.
In this environment, the resignation of the former Prime Minister and President of SYRIZA – PS, Alexis Tsipras, from the position of MP is an important and critical event that objectively produces strong political results and creates new data and questions that no one can ignore. With Alexis Tsipras as President, SYRIZA built the characteristics and positions of a ruling faction, governed the country and overturned the political associations of four decades that had been formed after the Post-colonialism. Even if there are different points of view, the relationship between SYRIZA – PS and Alexis Tsipras cannot be adversarial. Our parallel paths must converge towards the common goal of a strong progressive pole, with the formation of a programmatic proposal and the overcoming of the dividing lines in the progressive space as a whole, guided by the interests of the great popular majority and based on Leftist ideas and values.
In the next elections, it is necessary for the citizens to have a strong alternative to the ND. In this great case of reconstituting the progressive space, the role of SYRIZA – PS is and must continue to be creative, synthetic and the role of an accelerator of developments in all fields of political and social advocacy. In Parliament, in self-government, in public spaces, in local communities, in movements. With joint initiatives, actions, interventions, which will strengthen progressive positions against right-wing policies and make them a majority current in society. So that the country can finally turn the page with a long-term progressive government and broad popular legitimacy.
