The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou visited the 40th primary school in Piraeus on the first day of distribution of school meals: “From today, all children sit together for lunch at the same table. The 40th primary school of Piraeus joins the school meal program for the first time and, every day, students will receive a hot and nutritious meal. Together with the teachers and parents, we are very happy about this development. Solidarity and cohesion start from the school community and our children “go out” into society as ambassadors”.
“We rely on your cooperation to ensure that the quality of school meals is consistently high from the first day to the last day they are distributed. We will not tolerate any discount in quality, any discount in nutritional value, any discount in raw materials or the conditions of manufacture, packaging and distribution. Daily communication between us is critical and if you notice anything that does not meet the strict criteria of the program I would like you to let us know without delay”Ms. Michailidou pointed out to the Director, Ms. Ioanna Pelecanaki, as the responsibility for receiving the meals rests with a Three-member Reception Committee, with the President of the school unit and the school’s teachers as members.
Afterwards, Domna Michailidou was in the area where the school lunches are received and verified the proper packaging based on the specifications set for the suppliers.
The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family entered the classes of the 40th primary school in Piraeus and talked to students about their school life, lessons, excursions and activities outside of school.
Domna Michailidou also met representatives of the association of parents and guardians of the school, who attended the start of the distribution of school meals. “I am very happy to be present as Minister of Social Cohesion and Family at this start. It is a commitment of the Government, our Ministry and mine, personally, to include even more Municipalities, schools and students in school meals”, the Minister pointed out.
It is worth noting that for the 2025-2026 school year hot meals will be distributed daily to 231,062 students from 1,918 schools in 153 Municipalities of the country.
