Economou “brake” on scenarios for a ceiling on energy prices – “Spain does not do something overwhelmingly different”

by

“We are not done here with the support of society,” he said government spokesman Giannis Economou speaking on SKAI TV and the show “Unmatched” for government measures for support of society in the midst of the global energy crisis.

Mr. Oikonomou assured that the government is exhausting all available margins for the relief of the society and characterized April as “a month of implementation of very important measures and supports”.

The deadline for European measures is the May summit

Identify the Summit in late May as the final milestone for taking European support measures of societies, adding that otherwise the Greek government, as it already does, will continue to more actively support Greek society.

“Brake” in the scenarios for a ceiling on energy prices

Mr. Economou put a “brake” on the scenarios for imposing a ceiling on energy prices saying that the government is studying “what can be as effective as possible”.

“If it is to put a ceiling on energy prices and ask for this money to be taken back from the taxpayers, because somehow we will have to subsidize the difference (…), this is a measure that will not work,” the government spokesman stressed. .

He added that the price differences in production between hydroelectric, RES and natural gas, goes to a special account and is given directly to the consumer. In case of imposition of a ceiling, the discount on the bills may not have been of this extent.

Spain is not doing anything overwhelmingly different

Responding to the criticism of SYRIZA and the so-called Spanish model, Mr. Economou replied that what Spain is doing now for its own consumer, is in fact what the Greek government has been doing all this time.

“Spain is not doing anything overwhelmingly different from what we do,” he said, adding that it would be worthwhile to compare the discount on electricity that the Spanish consumer would eventually pay with the discounts in Greece. At the same time, he pointed out that the support in our country has started since last September.

To reduce VAT on food – What to do with fuel

Regarding the possibility of reducing VAT on food, Mr. Economou said that any new measure decided will be announced in time and when it is measured correctly.

“In order not to be announced, it is in the evaluation phase,” he added.

Regarding fuel, he said that the government intends to continue the subsidy of 15 cents per liter in May and June, while for gasoline he pointed out that the aid is valid until June.
