Turkey demands change: Turkish Foreign Minister accuses Greece of provocative flights

by

Provocative statements by the representative of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tanzu Bilgic, as broadcast by SKAI’s correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis.

Ankara is responding to coordinated moves of the Greek side towards the Turkish provocationBilgits states that the statements of the Greek Foreign Minister “do not reflect the reality” and calls on Greece “to put an end to its provocative actions and rhetoric and to sincerely support the Confidence Building Measures process».

His announcement is as follows:

“The statements of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 27 regarding the events between the air forces of the two countries in the Aegean do not reflect the reality.

The Hellenic Air Force carried out provocative flights near the coast of our country between 26-28 April 2022, repeatedly violating the airspace of our country in Didyma, Dacha and the Dalaman area. Our Air Force responded to these provocative flights and violations in accordance with the rules of engagement.

While Greece is the side that started and escalated the tension, to accuse our country with baseless allegations has nothing to do with the recent positive agenda and the good neighborly relations between the two countries.

We expect the Greek side to put an end to its provocative actions and rhetoric and to sincerely support the process of Confidence Building Measures that started both bilaterally and within NATO, so that such incidents do not happen again.

“There is no change in Turkey’s stance on resolving all the problems of the Aegean, including the airspace, in the context of an honest dialogue with Greece in accordance with international law.”
