The Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, sends a message to the rector of the Universities to proceed with the procedures for the operation of the university police, in an interview with the Free Press on Sunday, where he refers to his priorities in security issues.
He also refers to the political events in the country and the goals of New Democracy for the upcoming elections, while harshly criticizing SYRIZA, but also to the desecration of Hagia Sophia and the challenges of Turkey.
Mr. Theodorikakos did not fail to emphasize the actions of the Ministry of Civil Protection and the recruitment of staff to strengthen border and city security to combat crime, which, he stressed, the latest 8 months shows a reduction of 30%robberies, burglaries and car thefts as a result of a stable policy.
“The security of the citizens, but also the security of the homeland must always be our first priority, it was our pre-election commitment that is being done with determination. This is confirmed by everything that happened in the country in the last three years, when great threats to security were manifested in Greece as well “, says Mr. Theodorikakos. He added that the night patrols in Attica have more than doubled, operations are constantly being carried out in the center of Athens and the illegal immigrants are being taken to PRO.KE.PA. Amygdalezas, the education is strengthened and the retraining of the DIAS Group is completed, the services of EL.AS are digitized, innovative practices for the confrontation of hooliganism and domestic violence are promoted, while 1,680 border guards were hired for the border.
Regarding the Universities, the Minister states that the Greek Police intervened every time (dozens of cases), that illegal acts were reportedly reported to the institutions, while at the end of May the training of 400 special guards for the operation of the Protection Institutions of University Institutions is completed.
“We are implementing our strategy for security in Greek Universities, which is a precondition for freedom and smooth operation for the benefit of teachers and students,” said the Minister, adding: “Regarding the Ministry of Civil Protection and the Greek Police we meet our obligations in this area 100%. They owe it too the rector’s authorities to do their duty and of course we expect the CoE to make its decision on the constitutionality of the law as soon as possible “.
Mr. Theodorikakos also referred to his recent visit to Istanbul and stressed: “The lack of respect shown by Turkey to Hagia Sophia in this masterpiece of cultural heritage is sadly provocative. The images of the desecration of Hagia Sophia cause deep sadness and indignation not only to the Greeks, but also to the whole civilized world. These images offend both Orthodoxy and Christianity and the global civilized community. Lately, the Turkish provocation is constantly increasing with continuous violations of the airspace and provocative flights over the Greek islands. It is a fact that Turkey does not respect international law by following its own provocative strategy. Greece respects the law with sobriety, but also vigilance. “It’s good to know – and everyone knows – that the guards know.”
For the government, SYRIZA, the 14th congress of New Democracy and the elections, Mr. Theodorikakos states in the interview: “The goal of New Democracy is to win self-confidence of the Greek people ΣΥ SYRIZA is far from the problems and real needs of society, bound by ideological logics of the past and unreliable practices that Greeks know very well that lead to failure… Greeks judge and compare. Responsible and effective crisis management, the creative work of change and reform and the best prospects created for the country. That is why I believe that Kyriakos Mitsotakis is a long-lived prime minister who secures the future of Greece in our difficult times “.
The Minister emphasizes that “Kyriakos Mitsotakis is a long-lived prime minister” and explains the reasons why he, in the next elections, which he says will take place at the end of four years, will be a candidate in the Southern Sector of Athens.
For his own candidacy, he underlines: “After 7 years of creative path and dynamic struggles in the opposition and creative work in two ministries, I thank the Prime Minister for his confidence to fight in the next elections as a candidate for parliament with New Democracy in the Southern Sector Athena’s. It is a very large and dynamic region in which I have been active professionally for decades and with which I am connected by human, social and political ties. I will give all my strength for a new great victory of the New Democracy “.
