«Honorable President, ladies and gentlemen, neo-democrats, neo-democrats, members of our great faction that embraces and unites the Greeks and stands by every citizen, especially in difficult times and especially in the middle class which is the backbone of society and its economy. .
Our Conference is held in special circumstances determined by the multifaceted effects of the pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the energy crisis, imported inflation, the challenges in the Aegean and the dangers of the ongoing illegal migratory flows in Evros.
The complexity of the threats we face makes national security a top priority. This includes the security of our borders and the security of our citizens. And tackling the asymmetric threat especially in Evros and tackling violence and crime.
Dear delegates, in Evros we are fighting every day, because there are still hundreds of illegal immigrants trying to enter the country illegally.
This is the reality and I want you to know it. The number of border guards hired by this government amounts to 1680, plus 250 in the following months. The message to our compatriots, but also to our neighbors and Europe is clear. We owe it to ourselves to protect our borders on behalf of the Greek people, the Greek state and the European Union, and we will never stop doing that. And we expect Frontex to continue to support this mission, which is being carried out by EL. AS. in close cooperation always with our army.
At the same time, the central goal of our policy is the security of the citizens, throughout the country. Prerequisite for freedom and prosperity. To this end, we persistently follow a clear strategy. To bring the police closer to every citizen who needs it. No big words, no hypocritical crowns, no false promises. Security for us is not anniversary posts and photos. But with a plan, hard work with priorities, actions, results, measurable.
- We practice more than double the night patrols. The 60 became 150 in Attica.
- We are implementing the special business plans, 900 illegal immigrants were taken to PROKEKA in the last quarter. Special operations are carried out for this purpose in both Attica and Thessaloniki. These are pretended to be ignored by some who are hypocritically interested in the presence of illegal immigrants and crime in the center and neighborhoods of Athens.
- We are putting into practice the continuous digitization of services of the Hellenic Police, freeing more than 1,500 police officers from bureaucratic side effects in order to dedicate themselves to their real police work. From September, the delivery of the petitions is done electronically, with a solution we gave together with the Ministers of Justice and Digital Governance.
- We are implementing the improvement of police training. The entire DIAS Team is being trained from last November until next July. At the same time, we are upgrading the police training as a whole and the School of Officers is being upgraded to A.S.E.I.
- We implement the law on marches and demonstrations. When there are hundreds of people, they are confined to the street lane and the operation of the streets and the city is normal.
- We are putting into practice the cooperation of EL. AS. with the local government, in order to achieve the best results at the local level. And let me quote: I am proud of the law I brought as Minister of Interior and saved the municipalities from the catastrophic ideological application of the simple analog, as well as the Antonis Tritsis 2.5 Billion program that gave breath and perspective to the Municipalities throughout the country. As for the law that allows Greeks abroad to vote from the country in which they are.
- We practice security in universities. In just 8 months, the Hellenic Police had to intervene in dozens of cases. Particularly characteristic is the case of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which finally entered a 34-year occupation in order to become the library of the School of Sciences. The 400 guards of OPPI yesterday students in total will complete their education at the end of May. We are waiting for the decision of the CoC on the constitutionality of the law as well as the placement of a tourniquet of entry control by the rectory authorities.
- We are implementing the enhanced presence of EL.AS at the airports, at the entrances and exits of the country, in the tourist destinations, contributing to the feeling of security of citizens and tourists and thus to the economic development.
- We put into practice the strengthening of the prestige and the human face of EL.AS, constantly promoting the action, the self-denial, the heroism, the humanity of our police officers who have a decisive social contribution. We put into practice the support of the Greek police officer even in difficult times but also by satisfying a series of their chronic requests. We owe the Greek policeman for his huge contribution to social cohesion, especially in recent years, let us not forget this and I personally feel proud to serve our country in this responsible position and every day I work with the Greek police for the security of the homeland and the citizens .
- We are decisively implementing the measures to combat hooliganism. We have closed all illegal hooligan clubs and are working with the sports world to prevent violence and to take the necessary police measures.
- We put into practice the effectiveness in the investigation of crimes. The whole of Greece saw it in the rapid investigation of the murder of the unfortunate Alkis, in the kidnapping of the businessman in Menidi, in the murder of the family in Andravida, in the pedophile of Kypseli and in so many other cases.
All this has brought results. The low crime – theft – robbery – burglary – threatening a family has been reduced by 30% compared to all the years before quarantine. This is the truth and the reality. And this is a clear powerful comparative advantage of New Democracy over the official opposition, in deeds and not in words anymore. We are fighting for the implementation of the law. Of all laws. And if sometimes in order for the law to be implemented, the Minister must intervene publicly, this will be done. If someone is bothered they have to get used to it. Ladies and gentlemen, The security agenda is obviously not an extreme right-wing agenda. It is an obvious obligation of the state, it is a priority of the New Democracy, it is a need and a right for all citizens. We do not embellish the situation.
The fight, the creative work against violence and crime will continue with intensity to bring even better results despite the extremely difficult conditions, for our Police to be effective against crime, friendly to the citizens.
