The European Weightlifting Federation during the Congress held in Durres, Albania and before the 100th European Championship (27 / 5-5 / 6) organized by Tirana honored the Greek-symbol of the country’s sport.
The general secretary of the Hellenic Federation and four-time Olympian received the “Gold Collar for Sporting Merit” both for his competitive presence in the previous years that made him one of the legends of the sport, and for his general action in the sport in the following years from different posts.
This is the greatest honor that the European Federation can do to an athlete-player. «Given the current situation in Europe, it is also an important time for the European Weightlifting family, to show unity and solidarity. We need to be all together to face the challenges that our sport is going through. Only with unity, cooperation and following the instructions will we place the Weightlifting where it’s appropriate. I would like to thank the European Federation for the valuable award that came 18 years after the day I left my shoes on the platform!
