AO Thira withdrew from the continuation of the CEV Cup

by

AO Thira will not continue its European “adventure” in this year’s CEV Cup women’s volleyball. Santorini announced that from the second match with Udegem in Belgium for the “32” of the tournament, after the 3-0 set of the first match, due to cases of coronavirus in the ranks of the club.

In detail, the announcement:

“With a sense of social responsibility and respecting the emergency measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the administration of AO Thira announces that after the recent diagnosis of positive cases of COVID-19 members in our team mission, the trip to Belgium will not take place for second match of ’32 of the CEV Cup against VC Oudegem. A decision that was accepted by the Hellenic Volleyball Federation, but also by the European Volleyball Confederation.

In addition to the positive asymptomatic cases that were identified, the number of which is such that allows us to play normally and is completely manageable, we inform the fans that all our athletes, as well as the team staff, have been fully vaccinated.

According to the Health protocol of EODY, athletes, technical staff, but also other members of the team, undergo the necessary and prescribed examinations and, based on the results, enjoy extreme health.

However, for formal reasons, we are, unfortunately, obliged to adhere to the prescribed period of health isolation in order to protect ourselves, and those around us, from possible transmission of the virus.

After the 3-0 set of the first match, AO Thiras had the first say in another European qualification, while normally all the travel expenses have been paid, as well as the accommodation expenses of our team in the Belgian headquarters.

However, putting above all the highest good of public health and respecting the emergency measures to prevent the spread of the virus, as well as the members of the opposing team, we decided to cancel our trip and write early ‘end titles’ in this year’s effort of AO Thira for European distinction.

We warmly thank EOPE, CEV and all stakeholders for their full understanding and cooperation.

Finally, we are waiting for you all again with us safely at DAPPOS Santorini to support our team and to applaud the efforts of our athletes for distinction and titles in the domestic competitions of the sport “.
