Manchester United have appointed Andy Oboyle as the club’s new deputy director of football.

Oboyle has been responsible for elite performance in the Premier League for the last five years and was previously a physical trainer for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

United has been restructuring at the board level for the past 18 months. Richard Arnold replaced Ed Woodward as the club’s new chief executive, and John Martow took over the football team alongside Darren Fletcher.

Oboyle has extensive experience in all areas of football and tries to solve problems on and off the pitch where recruitment is top of mind.

The Red Devils have spent more than 1.3 billion in the last nine years, winning just three titles in the meantime.

Oboyle’s appointment frees up two-thirds of Martow’s time to work in other areas of the club, saying he would be happy to welcome a former Liverpool manager.

“We welcome Andy to return to Manchester United and take on this important role at the helm of the club,” Murtow said.

Andy has experience in all areas of soccer, from fitness and sports science to scouting and recruiting.

“He will be a valuable addition to the Carrington team as we continue to strengthen our leadership and strategic planning across all football activities.”

Ralf Rangnick no longer assumes the role of consultant. Oboyle is expected to work with Erik Ten Hag on the job front.

And he says he is excited to join the club at such an important time.

“We are delighted to be back at Manchester United at an exciting time for the club as the first team prepare for a fresh start under Erik Ten Hag and the academy and women’s team go from strength to strength,” said Oboyle.

“I am honored to be in the Premier League for the last five years and look forward to starting at United and playing my part in creating the right environment for footballing success.”

A constant United fan, Oboyle has been at the club’s center of excellence since he was a youngster, before turning his attention to sports science and coaching.

United has been responsible for advising clubs on talent identification and recruitment, performance analysis, sports science and medicine, psychology and loan management throughout his career, and said he will play a similar role at Old Trafford.
