From the 2nd to the 5th of June, the “Dyo Aorakia” of Heraklion enter into competitive rhythms, on the occasion of the European Championship of veterans judo, an event where for the majority of the participants the distinction comes in second place in relation to their presence.
After all, for the 30+ and especially for those who compete in advanced age categories, the … trip plays a more important role, than the destination! The European Veterans Judo Championship is co-organized by the Hellenic Judo Federation with the Region of Crete, while it is held under the auspices of PSAT.

In the “jewel” of Heraklion, everything is ready for the start of the top event, which is expected to offer spectacle, emotions and give “flesh and bones” to the memories from the past to the absolute protagonists: The athletes of another era.
The Greek participations
Greece will be represented on Thursday (2/6) on the first day of the event by eight athletes in the categories over 50 years. In the M5 category (50-54 years old), our country will be represented by Athanasios Avgeris (-80kg) and Zafeirios Margaritopoulos (-90kg).
In the age category M6 (55-59 years old) there is a quadruple participation, as Giorgos Ioannidis (-81k.), Miltiadis Seferlis (-81k.), Michalis Hatzinikolaou (-90k.) And Konstantinos Pantazis (+ 100k.) Will compete.
Also, Dimitris Tsagalidis (-73k.) And Georgios Andreadis (-100k.) Will “go down” in the M7 category (60-64 years old).
The top event of this age group will be attended by more than 250 athletes from 31 countries, including Ukraine, which has been tested by the war in recent months. In fact. The athletes’ expenses were fully covered by the Ministry of Sports, following the request of the Hellenic Judo Federation.
