Tite summons the Brazilian soccer team to the Qualifiers; see the list

by

With only one player in Brazil, goalkeeper Gabriel Chapecó, from Grêmio, Tite called this Friday (29) the selection for the next two matches of the World Cup qualifiers.

On November 11th, the team will receive Colombia at the Neo Química Arena, in São Paulo. Four days later, he will visit Argentina, in San Juan.

The Brazilian team may guarantee qualification for the World Cup in Qatar, in 2022, in the next game. For that, they will have to beat Colombia and hope that Uruguay doesn’t defeat Argentina in Montevideo.

The team will start the next round in the lead of the qualifiers, with 31 points. They are six ahead of Argentina, in second place. The two teams have one game in hand (11) in relation to the other teams because of the confrontation interrupted on September 5th.

At the time, Anvisa agents entered the Neo Química Arena field because four Argentine athletes had not fulfilled the mandatory quarantine upon entering the country.

“The way Argentina faced it, the way Brazil faced it [a suspensão do jogo], all the circumstances that happened… The biggest one is the greatness of Brazil and Argentina. Historically, playing a game of this magnitude brings you a lot of weight”, analyzes the coach.

Brazil has a 15-point advantage over Colombia, currently in fourth place. The top four qualify for Qatar. The fifth will play in a play-off against an opponent yet to be defined, probably from Asia or Oceania.

Because of the qualification well underway, clubs in the country asked the CBF that players from their teams were not called. The two Qualifiers games will take place between rounds 31, 32 and 33 of the Brazilian Championship.

Tite was asked about the absence of Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, who played a big part in the derby against Barcelona this month. For the coach, the preference at the moment is Raphinha and Antony, from Leeds United (ING) and Ajax (HOL), respectively.

“He is a great player, with impressive growth potential, in a great moment at the club. The performance and the opportunity that Raphinha and Antony had, was an important moment for the call-up, with all due respect in this loyal competition that we are looking for.”
