Harry Kane celebrated England’s 50th goal on Tuesday as the Three Lions drew 1-1 with the impressive German team in Munich.

The hosts dominated the first half when Gareth Southgate’s side were unable to cope with Germany’s energetic and high-pressure system.

And while Hans Flick’s team seemed to win one after another, Jordan Pickford was unable to clear Jonas Hofmann’s shot in the 50th minute.

However, near the end of the match, Jack Grealish and Jarrod Bowen made a big impact, resuming the attack on England, and after VAR deemed Kane sent off with a Nico Schloterbeck penalty, the visitors finally deserved a penalty.

The Tottenham striker sent Manuel Neuer in the wrong direction, scoring a half-century goal for his country and lifting Sir Bobby Charlton to second place on the list of England’s all-time leading scorers.

England’s all-time leading goalscorer

  1. Wayne Rooney (53 goals, 120 appearances)
  2. Harry Kane (50 goals, 71 appearances)
  3. Bobby Charlton (49 goals, 106 appearances)
  4. Gary Lineker (48 goals, 80 appearances)
  5. Jimmy Greaves (44 goals, 57 appearances)

Kane came just four goals short of Wayne Rooney’s record, and the England captain made a fuss after the match despite some disappointing results.

“I love scoring a goal, especially in my country. I’m happy to do it if I can help the team,” the 28-year-old said on Channel 4.

“I had some chances before. First in the post, Manuel Neuer made the second best save. We went on and played the best football in the last 30 minutes. It’s a good thing and the score.

“It is very important to show mentality. The 1-0 is late. We have shown a good character to return to the game and get results. The game against Germany is very successful. It is still important. There are games, but the World Cup is here before that we realize.

England’s preparations for the World Cup in Qatar in November are not exactly planned. Last Saturday’s draw with Germany and defeat to Hungary means Southgate’s side are bottom of the Nations League group.

But they have the opportunity to change everything in their next game against group leaders Italy on Saturday at Molino.
