Robin van Persie explained why he turned down Erik Ten Hag’s offer to return to Manchester United’s coaching staff.

Ten Hag was considering appointing another manager as one of his assistants after signing a three-year deal at Old Trafford.

However, Van Persie rejected United’s approach, but family commitment played a part in his decision.

Van Persie’s son Shakir is currently enrolled at Feyenoord Academy, and his daughter Dina is an ambitious equestrian.

“My son and daughter are important now,” Van Persi told Life After Football magazine. “The fact that they’ve both found their passion is great. The hobby is fun, but I hope they really find their passion.”

Dina managed to do it on horseback, she’s totally into it and Shakir is doing the same with soccer. My husband, Bufra, is developing all his talent in our project. That is wonderful. I’m having fun together.

In London, I moved five times when I was playing for Arsenal. I also lived in Manchester and Istanbul. In general, we were almost 14 years apart.

However, we feel that “what’s good for kids now? And it should be a bit more stable.”

Van Persie made 105 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 58 goals and helping Sir Alex Ferguson’s side win the Premier League title after a controversial move from Arsenal.

The Dutch heroes hope Ten Hag benefits from his Old Trafford experience despite United’s recent feuds with the likes of Ralf Rangnick, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho.

“The respect from the fans is huge,” Van Persie added. A few years later, after winning the league, when I came back with Fenerbahce, United and Sir Alex, I got a lot of thanks from people.

Fenerbahce coach Dick Lawyer recognized him. He experienced this in the Scottish Rangers. He told me: [at United]”And he was absolutely right.

“England is a wonderful country to live in. The people are warm and friendly. It’s a 40 minute drive from Rotterdam, but you’ll find yourself in a completely different world. A very beautiful world.

“I also loved football very much. I still think it’s the most beautiful league in the world. The pitch is like a green table in the pool. All the stadiums are big and always full. And England is absolutely football. I’m breathing.”

Ten Hag was unable to bring Van Persi to Old Trafford but last month appointed Steve McClaren and Mitchell van der Gag as managers.
