Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon preparations started to look dire as she injured her retirement in the first round of the Nottingham Open.
The teenager needed an early medical time-out in the clash with Victoria Gorvic in Switzerland as the injury problem continued and there was a problem on her left side.
He was treated on the left side and given painkillers as he tried to get extended, but was 4-3 at the end of the first set. He needed a third treatment since he won the US Open in September.
Raducanu wasn’t his first home game just because he was back in the UK, as he swept the world in just 33 minutes.
Retirement will raise more questions about her health as she suffers from the physical necessities of life on the WTA Tour.
He plans to play in Birmingham next week before spending a light week at Wimbledon, raising questions about his participation.
It has been some 12 months since Raducanu made her WTA Tour debut in Nottingham, but it was unclear how high she would rise in the coming months.
And after his run to the fourth round at Wimbledon, it was his first chance to see a 19-year-old British fan injured and claim glory in New York.
However, there were previously signs of discomfort as he was on the sidelines in the first match of the match.
The first round of his treatment came after the first shift and he was able to open with a 3-1 lead, but he was struggling and had time to miss three games in a row.
