According to Greg Norman, Tiger Woods turned down a $1 billion offer to participate in the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational series.
The Separatist tour will kick off Thursday at the Centurion Club with a $2.02 billion purse.
LIV Golf’s Norman had a hard time attracting top golf stars in St Albans, but was able to attract Lee Westwood, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and more.
However, despite Norman’s high membership dues for 46-year-old members, it has proven difficult to secure Woods, whose net worth is estimated to be around $1.7 billion.
The Australian said: We are talking about the first nine numbers.
Woods just returned to the Masters in April after being seriously injured in a car accident last year.
The Floridian struggled to win the PGA Championship mark in August or May, but reiterated his desire to continue playing in the game’s biggest event.
The PGA Tour is warning that players participating in the Rebel series face a permanent ban from tournament play.
Despite his position on the PGA Tour, the 48-man release is set to compete in Hertfordshire this week.
On Saturday, World No. 33 Kevin Nam announced he was leaving the PGA Tour, and Michelson confirmed on Monday that he would play in LIV Golf’s first event.
The Centurion Club is attended by several players who will also be on the pitch at the US Open next week.
As it stands, he will be finished in the majors, the USGA – the US Open organizer – has not yet banned players from participating in Norman’s breakaway tours.
LIV Golf plans seven more tournaments in the US and Asia later this year.
