Novak Djokovic called winning Wimbledon 2022 in the first round of matchday one “difficult” and admitted he wasn’t as prepared as usual.

Wimbledon champion defeats Kwon Sung Woo [6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4] Going into the round after the championship, for Serbia it was far from a normal victory.

Kwon, 75th in the world, showed fierce resistance throughout the match, but began to tire in the fourth set and was unable to defeat the 20th Grand Slam champion.

Djokovic said after the match: “Kwon is credited with a very high quality tennis game. He really deserves applause.”

“At the beginning of the tournament, I didn’t have any major tournaments or preparatory tournaments until now, so it’s not as comfortable as I always think, especially when I play against talented people like Kwonia. He’s close to the line and he hits. Really clean.

It was hard to get through, so I had to find a way to control it. It has never been so easy.

“We needed to add variety to the game. The serve was useful, but at this level, one or two shots determine the winner. I’m happy to be the winner today.”

Djokovic’s 80th win at Wimbledon made him the first male or female player in history to win 80 games at all four Grand Slams.

“This sport has given me everything. I had many coaches before the sport and I still love it from the bottom of my heart,” he added.

“I’m as devoted as anyone else. I’m not a young man anymore, but my love for this sport is still burning. I always play the best tennis in Grand Slam and the best tennis. I try to make it through. With the best court. It’s already 80 years. Let’s reach 100!”
