SPORT FM puts you in the swimming action for good and teaches you everything you need to know about the most historic swimming route and the top organization of the Authentic Swimming Marathon that is approaching and will take place for the 3rd consecutive year, on July 1-3, 2022, at Pine of Evia of the Municipality of Istiaia – Edipsos.
Olympics & World Marathon Swimming Stars will be there
World-class names, with Olympic distinctions and unique records will be in Pefki, Evia to participate in the historic event such as:
• The Hungarian Silver Olympian in Tokyo & World Champion Kristof Rasovszky
• After two years and his first participation, the Bulgarian Olympian Petar Stoychev with 4 participations in Olympics, 11 consecutive titles in major international open water marathon swimming FINA series and his impressive position in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame returns again to our country.
• For the first time, Christof Wandratsch, the German world champion and Hall of Famer marathon swimmer who holds many world championships, cups and records, will take part.
• In Greece will also be, for the first time, Kate Steels, the English Hall of Famer who came out Woman of the Year 2021 at the WOWSA Awards of the world open sea swimming association.
The history of Greek swimming & new champions
Our country has declared participation, among others:
• the world champion of open water masters, Vicky Kouveli
• the three-time champion of Greece, who has crossed the Channel twice, Sofia Psilolignou
• the marathon swimmer of the Channel, Giannis Kotsiopoulos
• as well as Greek champions such as Electra Label, Dimitris Negris, Panagiotis Bolanos, Stellina Aplanti, George Skotadis who plays with the colors of the Dutch National Team, while Olga Dalla returns.

Saturday 2 July 2022
On Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 08:15 a.m. the original 14.5km route will be carried out. “Skylias & Idna” which provides the opportunity for the first time for the participants to swim over the wrecks of the naval battle of Artemisio of 480 BC. The athletes will follow the example of Skyllias and his daughter Idna, the first long-distance swimmers, according to the Father of History Herodotus (8.8) and other historians, who helped the Greek forces in the historic naval battle of Artemisio against the Persian fleet. The swimmers will cover 80 stages or 14.5km. On the same day, the 5km routes will also take place at 10:00 a.m. and 3km at 16:00 p.m.

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, the 10km marathon will take place at 08:15 am, the 1.5km race at 09:30 am. as well as the children’s route 500m at 09:00 a.m. The routes of 5km, 3km, 1.5km and 500m. have as starting and ending point Pefki beach. See here the program of games and parallel actions.

Participants can register and take part in the impressive routes of 14.5km, 10km, 5km, 3km, 1.5km. The citizens of Istiaia-Edipsos and the disabled have the opportunity to take part for free in the routes of 5km, 3km and 1.5km. Registration for the 500m children’s race is free.

Offshore kayak for the first time in Greece in a sports event
The certified and experienced team of the South Evian Gulf team will offer the opportunity to learn the basic techniques of offshore kayaking, familiarization with the boats on land and then rowing in the straits of Artemisio.

Festival of local products
As part of the Authentic Swimming Marathon, there will also be an exhibition of local food products and tasting in collaboration with the Federation of Trade and Entrepreneurship of Evia “Evia Business”.
Concert by the Navy Band
At the same time, the activities will include on Saturday night, July 2, the presence of the Etiquette of Music with the participation of the Navy Band, connecting the historic Battle of Artemisio with today and honoring the naval feat. The Music Department of the Navy will hold a music concert in honor of the Battle of Artemisio and the Authentic Swimming Marathon.
Concert by Thanasis Polykandriotis
The Athens Concert Hall travels to Northern Evia and comes closer to its inhabitants, in an effort to contribute to its cultural revitalization. The “Bridges of Music” events begin on Friday, July 1 in Pefki with the concert of the band of the popular composer and bouzouki master Thanasis Polykandriotis, who will present a musical performance based on his popular memories from the beginning of his career until today. The event is part of the Authentic Swimming Marathon “Artemision 480 BC” organized by the Municipality of Istiaia-Edipsos.
