Zakius Darko-Kelly: The unknown pieces of PAOK’s recent acquisition

by

THE Zaccheus Darko-Kelly is his latest transfer acquisition PAOK. The “two-headed man of the North” acquired him American forward and with a crowd on the team’s official site revealed all the little details of his life.

The publication of KAE PAOK in detail:

1. Born on May 3, 1997, Zaccheus Darko-Kelly doesn’t have the most common name. His name is spelled Zaccheus, pronounced “Zacchius” and refers to the name Zacchaeus. How did it occur; From a dream his mother had shortly after his birth that led her to the decision to give him this name!

His friends call him “Z” for short.

2. And his… double surname, however, is not one of the most common. The explanation, however, is simple and easy, as it comes from his two parents. His mother Melissa Darko and his father Steve Kelly, who in his youth played basketball at Savannah State University.

3. He graduated from the “Argonauts”, meaning the Argonauts of Providence! And Greek mythology! Zaccheus Darko-Kelly began his collegiate career at Montana Western where he played for two seasons (2016-18), but then followed coach Steve Keller to Providence Montana University. He had to sit out an entire season (2018-19) due to his transfer, but came back stronger and better for the final two years (2019-21) of his college career.

4.Had the best game of his college career against Providence and his former team, Montana Western. It was 2/21/2020, just before everything stopped due to the pandemic, that is, when with 40 points (6/10 shots, 11/16 two-pointers, 4/8 three-pointers), 11 rebounds and 7 assists, he led the Argos to victory (93- 76) on Montana Western. The 40 points are also the best performance of his career so far.

5. In the summer of 2021, he tried his luck in the Summer League and was on the roster of the Toronto Raptors. At first he watched games from the bench, but played in the Raptors’ last game for 22 minutes, scoring 4 points in an 86-72 win over the Brooklyn Nets.

6.Looking for his first professional contract, he came to Europe towards the end of summer 2021 and trained with teams in Germany and France. He eventually signed a contract with Ludwigsburg. However, he did not stay in the German team and left before the season started. Immediately after that he went to the same team and participated in the preparation Jaylen Hands. The two did not meet there, but they will be teammates at PAOK mateco! “Hands went away shortly after I left and we didn’t meet. He’s an extremely talented player and I’m delighted to be team-mates,” commented Darko-Kelly.

7. Finland and the Helsinki Seagulls were his first professional team. He had teammates Peteri Koponen, one of the best Finnish basketball players of all time, and Shawn Huff who has played in Greece with Marousi and Kavala. He tried to learn from both, not only things related to basketball, but also how to function as a professional basketball player. “It was a great experience for me. My team, coaches and teammates have welcomed me in a very nice way and helped to create a great feeling from my first season as a professional. Even having teammates like Koponen and Huff and knowing where they’ve played and what they’ve achieved, it’s been very helpful for me, but also an extra motivation,” he comments.

8. In high school he played with the “3”, a number that was not available when he went to Montana Western, so he first wore the “2”. This number followed him in Providence, Finland and this number, “2” he chose to wear in PAOK mateco as well.

9. In his free time he tries to be with his friends, he likes to be near the water, whether it is the sea or a bike ride next to a lake. He is a picky eater so it took some getting used to when he first lived outside the US. He will be interested in the food in Greece, but also in the football in Thessaloniki. He really likes watching European football. And Tuba will be a good choice.

10. He is anxiously awaiting the trip to Thessaloniki and wants to be ready to start training with PAOK mateco. That’s why he works all summer. A few days ago he was on the same court in Las Vegas with NBAer DeMarcus Cousins. They trained together, due to the joint trainer who edited their program.
