Christian Pulisic claimed Raheem Sterling was “overwhelmed” by his arrival at Chelsea and “survived” fierce competition for a place alongside Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea completed their first signing of the summer this week when Sterling joined Manchester City on a £47.5m deal.
Pulisic, meanwhile, has been plagued by injuries since investing £58m from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and started just 13 Premier League games last season.
After Sterling’s arrival, the chances of a US cap may diminish, but the 23-year-old Chelsea players will have to face some fierce competition.
When asked about Chelsea’s decision to sign Sterling, Pulisic told ESPN: We’re very excited about it.
The good thing about being in a club like this is that you compete every day.
“We all enjoy competing against each other in training. Playing against each other is another great addition to the team.
“It doesn’t change much [for me]As before, I still have to play hard to win my place. Nothing crazy has changed.
“This is Chelsea, this is what you sign up for, this is a club with the caliber of players that we have.”
Meanwhile, Tuchel confirmed that Sterling is unlikely to appear in the first pre-season friendly match against Club America in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
“He participates in individual programs. Some teams are two weeks ahead of training, double training and intensive training, so they are not participating in the team,” Tuchel said.
“It’s not the time when he participates in team training every minute on the pitch.
“For Raheem, we haven’t decided on a team, but he’s not training in a team every minute, so it’s unlikely he’ll play.”
