Legendary Dodgers shortstop Vin Scully has died

by

Vin Scully, the legendary announcer of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, died at the age of 94.

Scully is considered one of the top game announcers and maintains a formidable record. He has been the Dodgers’ exclusive play-by-play announcer for 67 seasons, an all-sports record.

“He was the voice of the Dodgers and so much more,” the club wrote, among other things, and concluded: “Vin Scully was the heartbeat of the Dodgers and in so many ways the heartbeat of all of Los Angeles.”

He said in an interview: “When I was eight years old I wrote in a report that I wanted to be a sports announcer. Today it wouldn’t mean anything, everyone watches TV and listens to the radio, but at that time in New York the only thing we had was college football every Sunday afternoon on the radio. When the boys at school wanted to be policemen and firemen and the girls wanted to be dancers and nurses, there was one kid who said he wanted to be a sports announcer. It was very different.”
