THE Ot Tanak was the big winner at Rally Finland. The Hyundai i20 N driver had been in the lead since Friday leaving him second Call Rovanpera with a Toyota GR Yaris, while the latter’s teammate, Esapeka Lapi, completed the podium.
At the top of the standings is the 21-year-old Rovanpera, having won five out of eight rounds this year, even widening the gap. He now has 198 points, almost double that of Tanak (104), who moved up to 2nd place ahead of fellow Hyundai driver Thierry Neville of Belgium.
It is Hyundai’s first victory in Finland and the third for 34-year-old Tanak, after 2018 and especially 2019, the year he became world champion with Toyota before leaving for Hyundai.
It is also his second this year, after Sardinia, and the 16th of his WRC career. The next race will be in ten days in Belgium (August 18-21), on asphalt, during the Ypres Rally where Neville will be one of the big favourites.
