Jürgen Klopp has resolved James Milner’s altercation with Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s loss to Manchester United on Monday.
Milner angered Van Dijk on the pitch when Jadon Sancho scored in United’s first game and was furious with the Dutch centre-back as Liverpool dropped to 16th in the Premier League standings after a poor start to the season.
While setting up Sancho’s goal at Old Trafford, Van Dijk stayed in a central position with his hands behind him in front of the Liverpool goal, allowing the United winger to finish with a side foot.
“We talk about everything [this week]Klopp told a news conference at Anfield on Friday that he will be looking for his first win of the season after two draws and a loss ahead of Saturday’s game against Bournemouth.
“Miri is an emotional player and I had many conversations with my best friend on the pitch.
The Liverpool manager also doubled down on his comments that Liverpool deserved to beat United, pointing to his team’s possession stats.
“I know how that sounds, but if I had done the little things better, I should have won this game, so I have to find out now,” Klopp added.

“The team we had was good enough to put on a great game. I want to fight, get players back and get better results.
70% possession [vs United]We respect the result, they had a good chance, but we had a good chance and they did their best to block.
“But the game for United is over. The situation is not what we wanted, but it is a challenge.”
Klopp admitted that his currently injured player will not be able to return in time for Saturday’s match against Bournemouth, but the German should have Joel Matip and Curtis Jones trained after the weekend and claimed that Thiago and Diogo were not far behind.
He also said Liverpool were “always working” to bring in new players, but admitted he wasn’t sure he could sign them before the September 1 deadline.
Klopp spoke about Liverpool’s downfall at the start of the season, when the 16th-ranked team failed to win their first three games against Fulham, Crystal Palace and United. [about points] I’d like to, but it doesn’t make much sense.
Worrying about other teams doesn’t help. This team has reached an incredible level in recent years. We win often, but we don’t take it for granted. For this we have to work hard.
“It’s too early to finish the season and that’s it. Who knows what we can achieve this season. We have a lot of points to get, but we have to start accumulating them.”
