by

The men’s singles competition and Konstantinos Konstantinopoulos were the main news for the Greek colors on the second day of the Bulgaria WTT Feeder, on Wednesday 31/08. The left-handed champion advanced to the qualifiers with a second win against a Spanish international and on Thursday, September 1, he plays for entry to the main board of the “64”.

In front of him, of course, there is an obstacle from China, the also left-handed Liu Yebo, 21 years old, but his aim is to claim the victory through another remarkable performance.

On Wednesday, Yiannis Sgouropoulos also premiered in Panagiouriste in doubles. In general, eliminations were recorded in the doubles for all three Greek pairs, so the four-time European champion in the youth categories now puts all the weight on the singles, where he is directly in the “32”. Pleasant news also came from the WTT Youth Contender of Slovenia.

With the 2nd place in her group, Malamatenia Papadimitriou qualified for the 1st round of the women’s singles up to 19 years. Luck didn’t help her there and she has to face the 1st favorite, Anna Hersey from Wales, on Thursday, but the goal of qualifying for the round of 16 is clearly there.

In the WTT Feeder of Bulgaria, K. Konstantinopoulos was the only one who continued today in the qualifiers from the Greek side. After yesterday’s victory against the Spaniard De Las Eras in the “64” he found in front of him in the “32” Miguel Nunez from the same country. With high standards of performance in this match as well, he won with 3-0 sets and solemnly went to the “16” of the qualifiers (11-6, 11-9, 11-4). Next opponent is a Chinese athlete, who is still making his first appearances in these tournaments and is far behind in the world rankings. The reason for Liu Gembo, who in the 2nd round eliminated the 2nd favorite of the qualifiers, Pedro Osiro from Switzerland, with a 3-1 set. The draw for the board took place in the meantime, regardless of whether all the positions have not been filled and Sgouropoulos is invited to face the French Lilian Bardet.

In the qualifying round of 32 in the women’s singles, Terpou faced Marina Donner from Finland. Our returning international from injury did well in the first two sets, but then lost her rhythm and saw the Scandinavian slip away. In the 3-1 loss the sets were 10-12, 11-7, 7-11 and 2-11.

At noon on Wednesday, the men’s doubles qualifiers began and there was also a change in the draws. In the “16” G. Konstantinopoulos and Sgouropoulos finally faced the Spaniards Alvaro Genza/Juan Perez and not a Chinese duo. It was an exciting match, all sets were decided by the smallest difference, until the Greek duo was eliminated with 3-2 sets (12-10, 10-12, 11-13, 11-9, 11-13). Riniotis and K. Konstantinopoulos met the Koreans Park Geong Tae/Cho Seung Min and were defeated 3-0 sets (7-11, 8-11, 4-11).

In the mixed doubles final, K. Konstantinopoulos and Terpou ran into a Chinese pair. With a score of 3-0 sets they were eliminated in the qualifying round of “16” by Li Yuqi/Liu Yebo (6-11, 8-11, 3-11).
