Red Bull’s decision proved to be the right one and Verstappen regained first position as soon as the safety car left the track. With the exception of that moment, the season leader had practically taken a walk home.
Hamilton, in turn, in addition to not being able to defend himself, also dropped to fourth position, overtaken by his teammate, George Russell, in second, and Charles Leclerc, from Ferrari, in third.
“I can’t believe you… I man, I’m so… mad right now”, shouted the Briton while still in the car, frustrated with his team’s decision, which deprived him of his chance to fight for his first win of the year. .
