Hebar blocked the course of Olympiakos towards the Champions League groups.
The Bulgarian team prevailed 3-1 set at home in the first match for the third qualifying round of the top inter-club competition.
The rematch will take place next Wednesday (10/11 – 19:00) in Piraeus with Olympiakos wanting a clear victory (3-0 or 3-1 set) to send the match to the “golden set”.
The team that will qualify will continue its course in the Champions League groups, while whichever is eliminated will continue in the “32” of the CEV Cup against Montpellier.
Derby was the first set, with the Bulgarian club holding a slight lead for most of the season. The “red and whites” tied at 18-18 and managed to lead 20-19, but the hosts reacted and made it 22-21. Olympiakos managed to equalize three times until 24-24, however Hebar made the 1-0 set with 26-24.
In the second set, Hebar had the upper hand after 12-12, shot the difference to +8 (23-15) and made the 2-0 set 25-18.
The reaction for Olympiakos came in the third set, when it pressed the accelerator after 9-9. With the service weapon, the team of Kazazis had the absolute control and reduced to 2-1 sets with 25-20.
The “red and whites” chased the overthrow until the final. Hebar managed to escape at +5 (18-13) and kept the difference until 23-18. Olympiakos gnawed the difference and equalized at 23-23, but Herbar took the last crucial points and made the 3-1 set with 23-23.
