Arsenal and Zurich held a minute’s silence following the death of Queen Elizabeth on Thursday, but it was eventually interrupted by boos and jeers from home fans.
Before the start of the second half of the Europa League, both teams lined up around the center circle to take part in a moment of silence to commemorate the death of the Queen.
A black and white photograph of Her Majesty The Queen was projected on the big screen, and the moment of reflection began with the referee’s whistle.
There were shocked expressions on the faces of some people in the stands, many of whom had only heard the news of the Queen’s death from across the stadium.
Silence remained for the most part, but after about 40 seconds, the home fans seemed restless and began yelling, jeering and whistling.
This caused the silence to end prematurely and before the minute was up the players dispersed and took up their positions on the pitch.
