With defeat completed its course in the qualifying group of the European Championship Women’s National Team (3-1) against the Switzerland. This was the second defeat in a row for our representative group, who might have secured qualification from the 4th matchday, but found themselves in 2nd place in the final as they were overtaken by Bosnia.
In the first set, until entering the game, the national team found itself losing by large margins (5-1, 10-5, 12-15) having problems in all elements of the game. From that point our block started to work to cut it to 12-8 and get to the point (13-12). Our errors again brought the score to 17-13, but the block (8 points) brought another twist (18-17) and at 22-19 with a 0-4 run we went ahead for the first time (22-23 ) but without taking advantage of the bowl sets we had and the set ended at 31-29.
The same scenario with different protagonists in the second set with Greece starting impressively turning 2-3 into 2-8 and by 7-18 we were in complete control. But there Switzerland pressing the reception reduced us to 14-17 to show that we cleaned the set when the score became 15-21. And yet again we gave rights as Switzerland reduced to 19-22 and 20-24 became 23-24 for Chioga to provide the solution with a first time attack…
Unfortunately, again in the third set we did not start well at all with the score being 5-0. A little bit of a reaction allowed us to cut it to 8-6, but at 13-10 it was all over as one mistake followed another, and Switzerland made it 19-10 to take the set 25-16…
The Greek team found themselves chasing the score in the fourth set as well, managing to be within striking distance until 14-8, which became 12-8 and with partial scores of 9-2 Switzerland reached 19-10 and took with relative ease the set and the win.
