by

A few days after publishing the racing program for the next Formula 1 championship, the FIA announced that in 2023 six races will be held Sprint racesinstead of three that are in this season!

“I am delighted that we can confirm that six Sprints will be part of the Championship from 2023 onwards, building on the success of the new format first introduced in 2021. The Sprint Races provide action throughout the 3-day, with the drivers to fight for something from the start, on Friday, to the finish, the main race on Sunday, adding more drama and excitement to the weekend. The feedback from fans, teams and partners has been very positive and the format adds a new dimension to Formula 1, and we all want to ensure its success in the future.”Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali said in a statement, with FIA president Mohamed Ben Sulayem adding:

“The confirmation that six Sprint Races will take place from the 2023 season onwards is another example of the continued growth and prosperity at the highest level of motorsport. Thanks to close cooperation with Stefanos Domenicali and our partners at FOM, we have completed a thorough analysis of the impact of the additional races and adjusted the relevant parameters of our work to ensure that they continue to be held at the highest level. Sprint Races provide an exciting dynamic to the 3-day racing format and have proved popular over the past two seasons. I am confident that this positive trend will continue and I am delighted that the World Motor Sport Council has given its approval today.”.

In which Grand Prix these six additional races will be included, has not yet been announced.
