Moscow: Russian forces will face no problems despite damage to Crimean bridge

The Russian Defense Ministry has assured that Russian military forces fighting in Mykolaiv, Kriviy Rikh and Zaporizhia regions in southern Ukraine will be able to get all the supplies they need through existing land and sea corridors, after the severe damage caused by an explosion on the bridge connecting Russia to Crimea in the Kerch Strait.

Today’s explosion at the road and rail bridge, which was used to transport Russian soldiers and war supplies across the peninsula to other parts of southern Ukraine, damaged parts of the road link, forcing vehicular traffic into one direction, while railway lines were also destroyed.

Three people have been found dead so far, from the explosion of an explosives-laden truck on the bridge. At the same time, the details of the truck and its owner, which was registered in the Krasnodar region, were identified, while investigations have begun at the residence of the truck owner.

What is known about the Crimean bridge explosion according to the Russians

At about 6 a.m. a truck blew up, causing a train’s fuel tanks to catch fire. The fire on the bridge is already out. Part of the road surface of the bridge collapsed, as a result of which the traffic of trains and vehicles was interrupted. The passage of boats continues. A ferry crossing the Kerch Strait will start operating within the day. The rehabilitation of the railway infrastructure has already started.

Rail traffic will be restored at 20:00 tonight local time, the Russian Interfax news agency reported, citing Russian Defense Ministry sources. The All-Russian Union of Insurers estimates the damage from the explosion and fire on the bridge at 200 to 500 million rubles (3.3 to 8.2 million euros).
