Psomas in the final of the World Championship

Greece secured its first medal at the World Karate Championship for Adolescents, Juniors, Youth and U21 held in Iconium. THE Ilias Psomas qualified for the final of the +70k juniors, making impressive performances on the first day of the games and on Saturday (29/10) he will face the Estonian Bolotski with the aim of the gold medal.

In the premiere of the event (26/10), the athlete of Doxa Galatsiou defeated the Latvian Kazantsevs, the Turkish Celik, the Tunisian Gazouani, won the first place in the pool in which he participated and then in the semi-final he defeated the Ukrainian Pereundas with 2- 0. That’s how he got the “ticket” to the final and at the same time gave the best gift to his coach Dimitris Triantaphyllison the day of his name day.

Three 7e.g positions for Greece

An excellent appearance was made by Antonia Mousidou at KATA U21, he passed consecutive rounds and managed to place 7ththe ranking position. The same position was won by two athletes in the Youth category, o George Baliotis (-61k) and o Christos Gillias (-55k) who recorded an identical course. With great performances and consecutive victories they reached the final of their pool, where they were defeated. This is how they played in the repechage, where both were defeated by a Jordanian opponent. However, the 7the place in the world is certainly a great success for the two Greek athletes.

On the first day of the games (Wednesday) they competed in the KATA n Athena Tsiakmaki (13the place in the girls), o Alexander Liaskas (adolescent), h Paraskevi Neochoritis (young women), o Fotis Tsiakmakis (young men) and o Yannis Koukouselis (U21).

In the SLEEPING categories participated Municipality of Koutaliari (-70k teenagers), o Petros Karras (two wins in -63k teenagers), o George Papadopoulos (one win, one loss in -57k teenagers), o Vassilis Dimos (-52k teenagers) and n Irene Katsika (one win, one loss in +54k juniors).

On the second day (Thursday) the KOUMITE Young Men’s and Young Women’s competitions took place and also participated from the Greek side:

Leonardo Tsota (+76k), Konstantinos Papadopoulos (-76k), Andreas Bitsoris (-68k), Kalliopi Mavridou (+59k), Erasmia Gouvousi (-59k), Lydia Xeno (-53) and Theoni Reglis (-48k).

The Hellenic Karate Federation congratulates all athletes for their efforts in the World Championship, which continues tomorrow Friday with the U21 competitions.
