by

Vasco and Bahia won this Sunday (6) access back to Serie A of the Brazilian Championship.

The two teams will join Grêmio and Cruzeiro, forming the four teams that will compete for the elite of national football again starting next season.

The carioca team secured its spot in the First Division by defeating Ituano, 1-0, in Itu. The São Paulo team also had a chance to gain access, but they needed to have won the confrontation.

Ituano’s task, however, became more difficult after just four minutes, when Lucas Dias was sent off after committing a penalty. Inside the penalty area, he prevented a goal with his hand. In the charge, Nenê put the visitors at an advantage.

Even with one less, the hosts were not intimidated and fought for the tie.

Shortly after the break, at 11 minutes, Vasco also lost a player. Andrey Santos was sent off for a bad foul on Aylon.

Vasco, however, managed to hold on to the important victory to prevent the club from playing in Serie B for the third year in a row.

Before the match, there was a confrontation between fans of the two teams on the outskirts of the stadium, in Itu.

According to the UOL portal, rubber bullets and stun bombs were used by the military police to disperse the confusion.

After the episode, the police followed Vasco’s fans and created a kind of barrier to avoid further confrontations.

In Alagoas, Bahia beat CRB, 2-1, and is also back in Serie A. The Bahian team finished in third position, with 62 points, tied with Vasco, but with an advantage in goal difference.

On the other hand, Náutico, Operário, Brusque and CSA fell to the C Series.
