Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic won the ATP Finals for the sixth time by defeating Norwegian Casper Ruud in the final this Sunday (20), equaling Roger Federer’s title record in the tournament, which brings together the best eight players of the season.

Djokovic closed the game in 2 sets to 0, with partials of 7-5 and 6-3, in an hour and a half of departure.

Nole thus ends in style a year that was marked by his refusal to be vaccinated against Covid-19, which took him out of the Australian Open and the US Open, but also with the Wimbledon title.

Ruud, meanwhile, lost his third final of the season after Roland Garros and the US Open. But 2022 is for now the best year of his career, as he reached the second position of the ATP ranking in September and this Monday (21) he will appear in third.

“It’s disappointing to have lost these three finals, but if I had been offered, on January 1st, to finish the season ranked number 3 in the world and play in the finals I played in, I would have accepted immediately without a doubt,” said the Norwegian, that there is still “room to improve”.

“Of course, I played some really good tennis this year, but I don’t feel like I reached my peak or played the best tennis of my life,” he added.

The game started with good ball exchanges, with the two tennis players confirming their services until the final stretch of the first set, when Djokovic managed a break to close at 7-5.

In the second set, Nole was more aggressive at the beginning and broke Ruud’s service in the fourth game to open a 3-1 lead, which he managed without conceding a break point until the end of the match.
