In the first game of Group D in the Qatar Cup, Denmark and Tunisia did not start from scratch, thus registering the first goalless game of the World Cup. The duel also marked the first narration by a woman in the World Cup on open TV, with Renata Silveira, on Globo.
Interestingly, Denmark also starred in the last 0-0 of the Cups, when they drew with France in the first phase of the World Cup in Russia, in 2018. This time, Denmark and Tunisia even scored a goal each, both canceled for offside. VAR even called the referee in extra time to mark a possible penalty for the Europeans for a hand touch, but maintained its decision on the field.
Cited by many as a team that could surprise at the World Cup, Denmark controlled the game for most of the time, but without being able to create clear scoring chances. When it got close, the Tunisian goalkeeper Dahmen appeared well.
The main attraction on the field was the Danish midfielder Eriksen, whom everyone was curious to see at the Cup, after his dramatic participation in the Euro, last year, when the player had a cardiac arrest on the field.
The number 10 played the 90 minutes (and extra time) and was the main articulator in the few chances for the Europeans to score.
In one of them, at 23min of the second half, Eriksen kicked with his left foot at the edge of the area to a good save by goalkeeper Dahmen. Then, the number 10, responsible for all the set pieces of the team, took a corner, Christensen played with his head to Cornelius, who subtly deflected. The ball hit the crossbar.
Majority in the stands of the Education City stadium, in Doha, the Tunisian fans supported the team the whole time, and even shouted “olê” in exchange for balls in the defensive midfielder.
A few days before the game, narrator Renata Silveira even joked on Instagram, asking how many goals she would narrate. She even narrated two, but it didn’t count.
