With the goal scored in Spain’s 7-0 victory over Costa Rica, midfielder Gavi became the third youngest player to score at a World Cup.
The Barcelona player is second only to the Brazilian Pelé (17 years and 239 days when he scored for the first time, in 1958, in Sweden) and the Mexican Manuel Rosas (18 years and 93 days when he celebrated in Uruguay, in 1930) . Gavi scored at 18 years and 110 days.
“I didn’t know [dessa marca] and I’m very proud to be on that list”, said the jewel of Barcelona, elected the best player of the game this Wednesday (23).
“Not even in my wildest dreams would I have imagined this. I’m very happy, it’s another step and we have to keep going.” Gavi added.
This year, he won the Kopa Trophy, at the last Ballon d’Or, as the best young player on the planet. He also won the Golden Boy award, dedicated to the best under-21 in Europe.
Gavi started his career in the Betis youth system before moving to Barcelona in 2015 when he was 11 years old.
He debuted in Barcelona’s first team on August 29, 2021, against Getafe. In the current season, he played 21 games for Barcelona, between La Liga and the Champions League, and did not score.
