See which positions are the athletes sought by the great São Paulo for 2022

While players from São Paulo teams are on vacation, the boards of Corinthians, Palmeiras, Santos and São Paulo are working in the transfer market to strengthen the squads for the 2022 season.

Each of the four clubs must have a different role in the market. The alviverde team is the one with the greatest purchasing power at the moment and should open its coffers to bring athletes in view, above all, for the dispute of the Club World Cup, in February.

Corinthians hopes to have higher revenues next year by returning to the group stage of the Copa Libertadores. Therefore, the board sees room to increase the payroll with some heavy reinforcements, as were the recent arrivals of Renato Augusto and Willian, for example.

São Paulo and Santos are in more complicated financial situations. Both spent a good part of the last Brazilian Championship fighting against relegation, did not get places in the Libertadores and have shortages in several sectors of the squad.

Cast needs: striker and defender

Next season, the team from Alvinegro will return to dispute the group stage of the continental competition, the club’s priority. Fifth place in the last National, the Corinthians team foresees an increase in its revenues in 2022 enough, according to the board, to increase the payroll.

According to football director Roberto de Andrade, the priorities for strengthening the squad are the arrivals of a striker and a defender. In addition, defensive midfielder Paulinho has already had his return announced.

For the attack, Corinthians’ desire is a strong name, and, at the moment, there is a negotiation with Uruguayan Edinson Cavani, 34, from Manchester United. The hit, however, is difficult due to the high salary that the athlete receives in England. Diego Costa, 33, from Atlético-MG, was offered, but his salary also takes him away from Parque São Jorge. For the defense, the board has not yet revealed its targets.

In February, the alviverde team will compete again in the Club World Cup in search of the unprecedented cup. Despite having one of the most complete squads in the country, the club is looking for some reinforcements in the market, above all to replace the departure of important reserves.

Positions such as goalkeeper, right back and midfielder are priorities in the transfer window, although athletes from other positions are not ruled out, such as a striker. Willian is looking for new opportunities even with another year on his contract, and Luiz Adriano, in a bad relationship with the crowd, is another one who could leave. Midfielder Felipe Melo and goalkeeper Jailson have already left the team.

For goal, Marcelo Lomba, 34, was announced and should be Weverton’s immediate reserve. For midfield, Colombian Eduard Atuesta, 24, has also performed. Another one who came close to closing a deal was Chilean defender Valber Huerta, 28, but he ended up failing the medical examination carried out by the club and his hiring was discarded.

In attack, the board has monitored the situation of Wesley, 25, Brazilian center forward of Aston Villa (ING), who is on loan to Brugge (BEL), and also Argentine Valentín Castellanos, 23, of New York (USA). For the right flank, Giovanni González, 27, a Peñarol (URU) athlete, is a possible target.

Santos

The team from Alvinegro fought until the last rounds of the last Nacional to escape relegation. In order not to run the same risk next year, the board intends to reinforce the cast, although there is still not much money in the box to make big signings. In this case, the idea will be to invest in quantity rather than betting on medallions.

There are shortages in virtually every part of the cast. At the moment, among the names surveyed at the club, forward Alef Manga, 27, from Goiás, is the one with the most advanced negotiations.

To streamline the payroll and enable the arrival of other reinforcements, some names are also leaving the Vila, such as defender Danilo Boza, full-back Pará, midfielders Jean Mota, Anderson Ceará and Lucas Lourenço and striker Diego Tardelli.

The tricolor team was another that spent a good part of the last Nacional trying to escape Serie B after coming out of a nine-year lack of titles, with the conquest of Paulista. The perspective for 2022, however, is not the most encouraging. Recently, an audio leaked by Muricy Ramalho, the club’s football coordinator, in which he said he would leave the team due to lack of investment money.

After the controversy, the former coach seems to have changed his mind and, like Rogério Ceni, should remain at Morumbi. The squad needs reinforcements, but the most needy positions are the right flank and midfield, especially in the role of guard.

For the full-back, the club tries to borrow Rodinei, 29, from Flamengo. In midfield, Ceni indicated the hiring of Ronald, 24, from Fortaleza, where the coach worked with the player. For the other positions, the board has not yet revealed the names with which it is negotiating.
