THE Charles Leclerc of Ferrari finished his effort in second place and ahead of third Sergio Perezfinishing behind Verstappen in second overall in the drivers’ championship.
The Grand Prix began with the reigning champion holding on to the top spot he took in qualifying, with Hamilton passing Sainz for fourth, but then giving him back the position after passing him on the off-piste. Hamilton was experiencing power problems and was moving slowly, losing several seconds, while the two Ferraris were behind the Red Bulls of Verstappen and Perez.
Fernando Alonso was forced to retire on the lap with a mechanical problem in his last race with Alpine, while Perez came in for a tire change and came out behind the two Mercedes in 6th place. After the rest of the top six drivers entered the pits, Perez moved up to third, behind Leclerc, with the two of them fighting until the finale, for second place in the drivers’ championship!
Hamilton retired with gearbox trouble with three laps to go, while Perez was stuck in traffic and never managed to get past Leclerc, who finished second, with the Mexican settling for third. Sainz, Russell, Norris, Ocon, Stroll, Ricciardo and Vettel completed the top ten.
