Meet Enzo Fernández, Argentine promise who scored great goal against Mexico

by

Enzo Fernández, 21, shared with Lionel Messi, 35, the score of 2-0 in the match against Mexico, played this Saturday (26), for the group stage of the World Cup.

The young Benfica midfielder scored the second goal of the providential victory against the Mexicans, showing his talent in the shot from the left corner of Ochoa, after feinting the midfielder Érick Gutiérrez, 27.

Enzo is a child of River Plate’s base categories, which reveals great players in recent years. An example is Julián Alvárez, 22, his teammate, who spent four years in the Buenos Aires team, was elected King of America in 2021 and has just arrived at Guardiola’s Manchester City, where he stands out.

Enzo’s path, however, is different. He was promoted at 18, but ended up on loan to Argentine Defensa y Justicia, where he was coached by coach Hernán Crespo and Beccacece. There, he was champion of the 2020 Copa Sudamericana, defeating fellow Argentine Lanús in the final, 3-0. He also participated in the conquest of the Recopa Sudamericana over Palmeiras, in 2021, won on penalties.

With the good performance wearing the green and yellow shirt of Defensa, he returned to River at the request of Gallardo, in June 2021. The following year, he was already elected best player in the Argentine Championship and ended up being sold to Benfica, from Portugal, in the window July 2021. In Europe, it is praised for its performance.

Enzo made his debut in September for the Argentine national team, just a short time before the World Cup, in friendlies against Honduras and Jamaica.

Even so late in the preparation cycle for the Cup, the player made the squad for the Cup and proved to be a star in the decisive match.

With the great goal in the 87th minute of the game, the midfielder asks for a place in the Argentine national team, even if he is a newcomer.
