After shining in the debut match of the Mexican selection at the World Cup in Qatar, when he saved a penalty taken by Polish star Lewandovski, guaranteeing the tie, goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was unable to stop Lionel Messi’s shot, which opened the way for the Argentine triumph by 2 to 0 this Saturday (26), in Lusail.

At 29min of the second half, the Argentine star hit a powerful shot from outside the area, sending the ball into the left corner of the goal by Ochoa, who stretched out and could do nothing. Minutes later, he was also unable to avoid Enzo Fernández’s goal, which had the participation of Messi, author of the assist.

This is the fifth World Cup for Ochoa, 37. He joins defender Rafa Márquez as the Mexicans with the most disputed World Cups. To date, no athlete has managed to compete in six Cups. However, the Mexican goalkeeper has that goal in mind.

In an interview with Mexico’s GQ magazine, in the October issue, Ochoa said that he is physically well and wants to continue playing and, who knows, maybe even be part of the selection for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

“Due to my age and desires, there are chances of reaching the 2026 World Cup, as I see years of football in my life. If the coaching staff believe that I can contribute and add, it could be something unique in the history of football and I want to experience that . I love the World Cup, I do”, said the goalkeeper, in the interview.

Ochoa’s first Mundial was in 2006, at the age of 21. Afterwards, he was called up for the 2010 World Cup. On both occasions, he was a substitute. The title came in 2014, and maintained in 2018 and now in 2022. With this Saturday’s game against Argentina, there are ten in World Cups, with 12 goals conceded.
